Crossing the West Fork of the Trinity River, this reinforced concrete highway bridge has Gothic pointed arch concrete piers which support the four-lane road bed. The simplified Gothic motifs make this utilitarian structure elegant and graceful. The city began condemnation procedures to procure land for this bridge connecting downtown with Riverside and state highways to the east in 1930. The State Highway Commission, Tarrant County, and the City of Fort Worth funded the project with Gibb Gilchrist, the highway engineer, G.G. Wickline, bridge engineer and M.C. Welborn, resident engineer. Buckner Brothers was the construction contractor.
