This two-story gabled L-plan house with veneer of polychrome brick was built in 1937 for the Gilchrist family. The builder was J. L. Miller. The house is part of a small district of substantial residences on several blocks of Lipscomb Street. The Gilchrist House is a contributing resource in the Fairmount-Southside Historic District (local and national).
