Historic Fort Worth invites you to our final Membership Tour of the year, offering an exclusive look at our Preservation Resource Center. Members will tour the McFarland House’s PRC archive and the Ottmann Building, which serves as additional space for HFW’s inventories, permanent collections, and small meetings. Mark your calendar, and bring your holiday shopping list—you might just find the perfect gift!

Start at McFarland House and enter through the glass door off the brick driveway. Meet Brenda McClurkin, HFW’s  Archivist.

Join us for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of HFW’s Preservation Resource Center!  Discover the archives in the lower level of McFarland House.  Then, stroll across a parking lot to the locally-landmarked Ottmann Building.  See some of the permanent collections held there, and shop for holiday items.

HFW's Preservation Resource Center

Historic Fort Worth’s Preservation Resource is an initiative by Historic Fort Worth, Inc. (HFW), a non-profit dedicated to preserving Fort Worth’s architectural and cultural heritage. This program supports property owners, developers, and community members in maintaining and restoring historic properties.

Key Functions:

  1. Education & Guidance: Offers information on preservation practices, ordinances, and techniques for maintaining historical integrity.
  2. Historic Designation Assistance: Guides owners through the process of obtaining local, state, or national historic designation.
  3. Funding & Incentives: Helps identify grants, tax benefits, and loans for preservation projects.
  4. Consultation & Advocacy: Connects owners with experts and supports advocacy for preservation efforts.
  5. Preservation Tools: Provides access to directories of specialists and resources for restoration.
  6. Community Engagement: Promotes awareness through workshops, events, and public education campaigns.

This resource ensures Fort Worth’s architectural history is preserved for future generations.

Yates-Ottmann Building

The Yates-Ottmann Building stands as a beautifully preserved example of mid-century architecture. This charming office building has been home to various successful businesses over the years. Now owned by Historic Fort Worth, it occupies a prime location between the bustling Central Business District and the Hospital District. HFW utilizes this space to store its permanent collection and host small meetings.

As a special highlight of the tour, the building will be open for shopping!
