During World War II, the facility was used by Armour & Company for blood-processing and blood-plasma work, supporting the wartime demand for medical supplies. This included processing animal blood and producing albumin, which was used in plasma products vital for treating wounded soldiers. Its laboratory-style design and durable, fire-resistant construction reflect this highly controlled industrial function.

After Armour ceased meatpacking operations in 1962, the building continued to host related industrial tenants for several decades. Over time, the rest of the original Armour complex was demolished, leaving 601 E Exchange as the final remnant of Fort Worth’s meatpacking era.

In 2022 the building was purchased by U.S. Energy Development Corp. with the help of Bennett Partners Architects, the structure underwent a major restoration and adaptive-reuse project, transforming it into modern office space while preserving its historic industrial character. Today, the building stands as a tangible link to Fort Worth’s Stockyards history, its wartime role, and the city’s broader industrial heritage.
