Commercial Building – Evans

The 1928 city directory lists the occupant of this site as the Cozy Café. By 1936-37, two businesses were listed at this address, the Vanity Barber and Vanity Beauty shop. Beauty or barber shops have long been associated with this site. Like the building at 1159-63 Evans Avenue, it is one of the few remaining commercial buildings on this section of Evans Avenue that was once the commercial core of the Southside’s black community. The one-story wood-framed building is covered with asphalt shingles.
