D.R. Weaver Building – Lancaster

This one-story, brick commercial building is divided into four bays. The distinctive parapet has cast- stone coping and a central stepped gable upon which “D.R. Weaver —1926” is incised. A continuous canopy with attractive carved brackets and a green tile hipped roof runs the length of the facade. David R. Weaver, a contractor, was the owner/builder of this structure. The first tenant was Hughes Drug Store run by WC. Hughes. A number of subsequent tenants occupied the building, including a feed store, a diner, and the Piggly Wiggly Store No. 27. Weaver sold the building in 1936 to E.M. McClellan who owned it until 1971. The building is an important corner anchor contributing to this 1920s commercial district.
