Holmes House – Ryan Place

The Holmes House is a two-story house, rectangular in plan, with polychromatic red brick walls and green-tiled hipped roof. It has a symmetrical composition consisting of a central entry with semi-circular columned portico flanked by slightly projecting, identical end bays. A columned roof-terraced loggia to the south is balanced by an identical porte-cochere to the north. The house was built in 1922 for Floyd J. Holmes, vice-president and general manager of the Planet Petroleum Co. and president of the Comet Petroleum Co. It remained in the Holmes family through the 1930s. The architect was Wiley G. Clarkson. The house appears to be eligible for the National Register for its architectural and historical qualities. The Holmes House was designated a City of Fort Worth Historic and Cultural Landmark in 2004.
