Mrs. Baird’s Bakery – Summit

This large Moderne style bakery is two stories in height with a veneer of buff brick. Ground floor plate-glass windows display gleaming automated ovens and conveyor belts. Designed by the firm of Wyatt C. Hedrick and constructed by Quisle & Andrews at a cost of $300,000, the bakery has been a Fort Worth landmark since its opening in the spring of 1938. The last loaf of bread baked at this location was given to Mayor Kay Granger in late April 1992. Mrs. Baird’s Bakery was demolished as part of the expansion of I-30.
