This house is a large two-story bungalow with a lipped roof and exposed rafters. The prominent porch, which has a hipped roof with exposed rafters echoing the line of the house roof, runs along the entire front facade and the east elevation. Handsome tapering boxed posts on brick bases support the porch roof. Otto Schmidt, a Post Office clerk, bought this lot in 1921. Although the tax card indicates the house was built in 1925, Schmidt is not listed at this address in the city directory until 1929. He shared the home with his sister and her husband, John S. Newberry.
