2026 Hidden Gardens Honoree: Brent Rowan Hyder

Historic Fort Worth is proud to honor Brent Rowan Hyder, a devoted preservationist, philanthropist, and lifelong steward of historic places and landscapes. A true Renaissance man, Brent’s passion for history, architecture, and gardens was shaped early by his upbringing in Arlington Heights, where adaptive change, thoughtful restoration, and a terraced rock garden overlooking the Trinity River left a lasting impression. His deep appreciation for place has guided a lifetime of work restoring historic homes, safeguarding endangered landmarks, and championing Fort Worth’s cultural and architectural heritage.

Among his many accomplishments, Brent has restored Fairview, a landmark property recognized by Historic Fort Worth with a preservation award, adaptively reused historic bungalows in Arlington Heights and Fairmount, and led transformative efforts at Lake Como Park—planting trees, uncovering historic structures, and dedicating thousands of volunteer hours to its care. Through leadership roles including chair of the Tarrant County Historical Commission and co-founder of the Brent Rowan Hyder Foundation, he has advanced preservation, education, and community engagement. Brent’s love of gardens—both hidden and celebrated, from Fort Worth to Oxford, Istanbul, and beyond—makes him a fitting honoree for this year’s Hidden Gardens event.
