Carlton Building – Magnolia

Located at the corner of Travis and Magnolia avenues, the one-story building features a façade wall that is recessed under the roof overhang and behind the ends of the side elevations. Ten long vertical windows are located between exposed aggregate panels. Ground-level brick planter boxes run along the façade beneath the overhang. John W. Floore was the architect and the general contractor was Albert L. Smith. The building was constructed by Dr. Elbert P. Carlton who operated a clinic at the building next door (see 813 W. Magnolia Avenue). Tenants have included numerous insurance companies. It is a noncontributing resource in the Fairmount-Southside Historic District (local and national).
