C. F. Schultz Building – Main

This three-story brick building was erected in 1909 by contractor J. Gooch for Charles F. Schultz after the Southside fire of April 3, 1909. Occupying a prominent corner site, it has a rectangular plan and flat roof with corbelled brick cornice and small triangular parapets centrally placed on the two principal façades. Cast iron piers frame the storefronts along Main Street. Schultz, who was also a director of the Fort Worth State Bank, operated a saloon at 101 and rented out the other commercial spaces. Furnished rooms were offered upstairs. The building changed ownership in 1918 and was known as the Laclede Hotel in the 1920s and ‘30s. The brick walls have been painted grey and storefronts partially boarded up. The building may be eligible for the National Register following restoration. Unfortunately, the Schultz Building has been demolished.
