They fought to stop Lake Worth landfill. Now they’re working to create a 10,000-acre park

Fort Worth Landfill

Residents and Tarrant County leaders considered it a victory when in May a company withdrew its permit application to construct a highly opposed landfill near Lake Worth.

Now, residents are moving forward with plans to protect the land from development through the formation of the Lake Worth Conservancy, a group dedicated to preserving open space in the Silver Creek watershed and surrounding land. The conservancy is leading discussions with elected officials and residents about creating a 10,000-acre park in the same area where the landfill was planned.
