The Commercial Standard Insurance Co. erected this structure to house their fire, marine, life and title insurance divisions. The striking design is from the office of Mackie and Kamrath, important modernist architects from Houston. Thomas S. Byrne was the contractor for the project. Inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, the office building is a large L-plan: a one-story wing projects perpendicularly toward Camp Bowie Boulevard, while a two story wing extends west along the sloping, landscaped site. A prominent feature is the dramatic, cantilevered aluminum canopy projecting at the front of the building.
