Prior to World War II, at least two congregations had worshipped at this site. In 1949, the congregation of New Bethel Baptist Church purchased the property from the International Church of Foursquare Gospel and by 1952, had erected this Gothic-influenced church. The small brick building has lancet arched window openings, a central entrance flanked by buttresses and a prominent obelisk-style steeple. The original windows have been replaced, the brick painted and a wing has been added to the northwest corner. Although altered, the church is illustrative of the migration of African Americans into a formerly white neighborhood. The New Life Complete in Christ Baptist Church purchased the building in 2003.
