Bio

Thomas Helmick is a local artist who has lived and created art in Fort Worth for numerous years.  Originally from Ohio, where he received a BFA from Kent State University.  His postgraduate studies were in New York City at the New York Studio School, Queens College Graduate School, and the Art Students League.  During Thomas’s years in New York City, he studied with such prominent NYC artists as Jack Tworkov, Philip Guston, George McNeil, Harry Kramer, and numerous others who would happen by the school. The best part of the 3 ½ years in NYC was access to all the major museums, the Metropolitan, the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, and the Whitney.  Plus, all the galleries, the Soho galleries downtown, and the high-end galleries uptown. That exposure to so much art was a wonderful enhancement to his formative art education.

As an artist in Fort Worth, he has been represented by the following Art Galleries: Kornye Gallery in Dallas, Edmond Craige Gallery in Fort Worth, and the Monet Gallery in Arlington. His work is in numerous private collections here in Fort Worth, Dallas, New York, California,

Florida and Ohio. Thomas has been a long-time participant in the Camp Fire’s “An Artist’s Christmas” and in Historic Fort Worth’s “Preservation is the Art of the City”, having won awards in both.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The work shown here is part of a continued study of landscape.  In a landscape, as in all nature, there is a certain indomitable power and mystical beauty.  It is these rare places untouched by the desensitizing encroachment of all of us that I am drawn to, that excite me, and at the same time provide solace.  Since my early years as an artist, it has been my desire to capture this essence of natural landscape in abstract form.
